Delivered is the price including delivery to your delivery country, with the shipping costs the shop publishes itself; ordering more in one go often shifts that. The ranking is by price per troy ounce, not by the delivered amount: a shop that publishes no rate would otherwise win by saying nothing. More in the disclaimer.

Background

Origin and issuer

The Wedge-tailed Eagle comes from Australia and is struck by The Perth Mint, which is wholly owned by the Government of Western Australia. The silver coin is Australian legal tender and carries the Mint's P mintmark.

The coin is named after the wedge-tailed eagle, according to the Mint Australia's largest bird of prey. It soars on thermal currents, often to heights above 2,000 metres, and is recognisable by its wedge-shaped tail and feathered legs. The bird is found across mainland Australia and Tasmania.

History

In 2024 The Perth Mint issued a 1 ounce silver coin under the name Australian Wedge-tailed Eagle 10th Anniversary. The Mint calls that year's design the ninth official design by John M. Mercanti. That coin carries the P125 mintmark, which refers to The Perth Mint's 125th anniversary in 2024.

According to the Mint, the 2026 coin is the eleventh wedge-tailed eagle design Mercanti made for The Perth Mint. The Mint describes him as an American sculptor and engraver and the twelfth Chief Engraver of the US Mint.

Design

The reverse of the 2026 silver coin shows the head of a wedge-tailed eagle in the foreground with a bald eagle behind it; both birds gaze to the right. This side also carries the inscription AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE, the P mintmark, the weight, the purity and the year.

The 2024 coin shows a soaring wedge-tailed eagle against a background of geometrically arranged elements that suggest a sunburst.

The obverse of the 2026 coin bears the effigy of King Charles III in a design by Dan Thorne. The coin has an authentication feature: a micro-laser engraved letter, visible under a magnifying glass.

Composition

The 2026 silver Wedge-tailed Eagle of 1 ounce is 99.99% silver. The Mint states a minimum weight of 31.107 grams; the coin measures at most 40.90 mm in diameter and is at most 3.50 mm thick.

Face value and mintage

The 2026 silver coin of 1 ounce has a face value of 1 Australian dollar. For this coin the Mint states a maximum mintage of 50,000, the same as for the 2024 anniversary coin.
